We are doctors and lawyers, teachers and politicians, writers and bureaucrats, and various and unseemly other professionals. We all love Irish dance, music, culture, food and fun. Come, join in!

Class requirements:
Any one with dance experience. Anyone with no dance experience. Anyone with rhythm. Anyone with no rhythm at all. Anyone with a love of dance and a need for a good laugh. (Check all sensitivities at the door!) If you have taken Irish dance before, we welcome you to the class. If you have competed in any category of Irish dance other than adult in the last 5 years, you can not compete in feisanna until you have been 5 years without competing. Don't let that stop you from joining in the fun. We have all levels of dancers from beginners who've never done any kind of dance, to old pros who have taken Irish dance since childhood. You'll fit right in the mix!

Required prerequisites:
The only essential is a good sense of humor and a desire to dance.

Competition
Teams and individuals from the Drake School adult class compete at will in feisanna (Irish dance competitions) across the country. We dance in solo and figure team competitions. Competition isn't for everyone. It's just as much fun to cheer on your classmates, and drink beer while they suffer! Remember, laugh with them, not at them.

Craic
We are always looking for a reason for a little Irish revelry (craic). We gather often in local pubs to dance a few steps and tip a few drinks. We've even been invited to perform at local happenings like the annual Celtic Festival, and St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Come Join Us

Mary Brannick Ujda, TCRG

At the helm of most every class is Mary Ujda, TCRG (that's Irish for certified Irish dance teacher). Mary danced as a youngster in San Francisco, California. She makes every attempt to harness the creative energy that bubbles through each class, but often must reign us in. She's a very talented dancer and teacher with the ability to recognize where and when the dancers need help. The Drake Adults are very lucky to have Miss Mary as our teacher! She also has the rare honor of passing the TCRG test on her first try!

What to wear:
Comfortable workout style clothes. Shorts, t-shirts, etc. If you want to try it out before you invest in the expensive shoes, sneakers work fine. If you want to jump right in, here is a web site for shoes Fay's Irish Dance Shoes

Exercise
It's really a lot of work and great exercise, so bring plenty of water and be ready to sweat!
